The TalkTull discussion group is currently Distributing the 2008 X-mas Tree TalkTull "CD Tree" by which live, legal, uncopyrighted Jethro Tull concerts can be distributed as widely as possible at no cost whatsoever, other than compensation for the blank cd-recordable discs, postage, and mailer.

WHAT IS A CD TREE?
A CD Tree is a means of distributing, in a legal manner, recordings of live concerts. In our case, these concerts are by Jethro Tull. A tree consists of a ROOT,TRUNKS,BRANCHES AND LEAVES.
The ROOT gathers a collection of shows taped at concerts. Originally, trees were done by audio cassette. These days compact discs prevail. The Root may do some editing, cleanup or re-mastering to the shows prior to distributing them. With the input of all involved, specific shows are selected to be included as "seeds" in the tree. At the same time, Trunks and Branches are sought after and identified.
TRUNKS are people who distribute the music by receiving copies of discs from the Root, and making copies for the Branches. Currently, there are four Trunks. Discs can be distributed to the Trunks in either audio or SHN or FLAC format, as requested by the Trunks.
BRANCHES are people who are willing to help distribute the music by receiving copies of the discs from the Trunk, and making copies for his or her Leaves. It is desirable to have enough Branches so that each one will only have to make copies for about four Leaves. Since we are using audio compact discs, Branches must have a CD burner in order to make these Leaf discs. The shows can be distributed to the Branches in either audio or SHN or FLAC format, as agreed upon by both Branch and Trunk.
LEAVES receive the discs from their Branch. Each Leaf must supply his or her Branch with blank CD-R discs, return postage, and mailer. You simply mail your blanks in a bubble mailer with return postage already paid placed inside another mailer. As you can see, no one makes any profit from the project; our profit is the sharing of the music.
ARTWORK Artwork for jewel case inserts is designed and placed on this website for Branches and Leaves to download and print themselves. No artwork is distributed through the Trunks and Branches although some artwork is included on SHN formatted discs.

DO THE SHOWS COME FROM?
Originally they were taped at concerts by folks with
DAT or other taping equipment, and somewhere along the line they were
transferred to CD. Many of these shows existed and were traded amongst tapers
and traders on audio cassette until compact disc burning became the standard.
All shows (or Seeds) will be donated.
